UNDERSTANDS.

faux exasperation paints across radiating features at the thievery, a disapproving chuckle & a shake of her head in tow. food had always been the one thing they never really discussed; it was some kind of unspoken understanding, a silent agreement. teasing him about his sly steals eased the tension that surrounded the basic human staple that seemed more like a PRIVILEGE to the two. she rips the sandwich in half & physically places it into his hand to prevent any protest. the mention of the homework she usually had no time to do due to feeling sick from the baby & working at the diner makes her stomach flip habitually. alex always kept on top of his schoolwork, regardless of what was going on at home (she admires him for that). she beams at him proudly before her reply.

❛ yeah, i actually finished it this time. i need to get my grades up, baby bump is giving me bad pregnancy brain.
—— you’re still coming over later, right? we can study, i’ll make us some cupcakes … my mom’s working so you won’t be bombarded. ❜

his version of thank you consists of him leaning over and bumping her shoulder with his own & then waiting a beat (and only a beat) before sinking ivory into bread —— ravenous, lion and lamb. he would NEVER be this blatant about his hunger in front of anyone else. keen eyes tear apart families, and his siblings are all he has going for him; but izzie u n d e r s t a n d s without him having to say anything. maybe she isn’t privy to just how dysfunctional his parents really are, but it’s not like anyone actually is. he’s the troublemaker, the jerk, the bully. no one cares to look too close into the life of a bully. (no one but izzie.) alex shifts on the bleachers so that he is more or less facing her, gaze trained on her perfectly sculpted features as a second bite out of his sandwich finishes off half of what he was originally given, a muffled chuckle sounding.

uh——    a moment as he recalls his schedule. wrestling practice isn’t until tomorrow & jimmy’s singing at the bar tonight, so he won’t be home with the rest of the family.     yeah——yeah, sounds good. your mom isn’t that bad, y’know.
